The City of Centerville is seeking dedicated and highly motivated individuals to join our Fire/EMS Department as a Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic. This full-time position plays a critical role in emergency response, fire suppression, EMS care, public education, and safety inspections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire, EMS, and technical rescue calls.
- Provide basic and advanced emergency medical care.
- Direct volunteer personnel during incidents.
- Conduct fire prevention inspections and community safety presentations.
- Maintain and operate firefighting and EMS equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other departments and external agencies.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL
- EMT certification (or ability to obtain); Paramedic preferred.
- Equivalent Training to Firefighter I certifications conforming to NFPA 1001 (2008 or 2013 standards) or ability to obtain within 1 year of hiring.
- Knowledge of fire/EMS operations, NFPA standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
Hiring Process Requirement:
Candidates must pass both a written and physical Civil Service Examination, which will be administered on June 25, 2025. Qualified applicants will receive additional information on the testing process.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
- Experience with hazardous material response and technical rescue is a plus.
- Commitment to safety, continuous training, and public service.
Working Conditions:
This role requires both administrative work and emergency field response. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in intense physical activity during emergency operations. Work may involve exposure to smoke, hazardous materials, and extreme weather.
